Rockin' Apple Dumplings for National Apple Dumpling Day

Hey there, rock 'n' roll foodies! Today we've got something sweet and delicious in store to celebrate National Apple Dumpling Day. I've found this amazing recipe, and trust me, it's legendary !

Here's what you'll need to get started:

Ingredients:

  • 6 medium baking apples (Honeycrisp or granny smith are perfect)
  • Pie dough for a 9-inch double-crust pie (whether you go for homemade or store-bought, it's all rock 'n' roll!)

For the filling:

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into 6 equal pieces)
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice

For the sauce:

  • 1 cup unfiltered apple juice or apple cider
  • ΒΎ cup lightly packed light brown sugar
  • ΒΌ cup unsalted butter

Now, let's get cookin'!

Instructions:

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 375Β°F, and don't forget to grease a 13x9-inch baking dish. Rock 'n' roll, right? Set it aside for now.

  2. Peel and core each of those apples – we want them ready to party. To keep them from browning while we work on the dough, place those bad boys in a bowl of cold water with a squeeze of lemon juice.

  3. Whether you're going the homemade pie dough route or grabbing a store-bought one, it's all good. Roll the dough out into a large rectangle, about 21x14 inches. If you've got six equal pieces, each about 7x7 inches, you're right on track.

  4. Now, let's add some flavor to the mix. In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and that awesome apple pie spice. It's like a guitar solo for your taste buds.

  5. Place one of those cored apples right in the center of each dough piece. Now, drop in one of those butter pieces and sprinkle a bit of that spiced sugar mixture right on top of the apple. Time to wrap it all up – bring the corners of the dough up over the apple and pinch those edges together to seal the deal. Repeat this for all your apples and dough pieces.

  6. It's time for the sauce! Put the sauce ingredients (apple juice or cider, light brown sugar, and unsalted butter) in a saucepan. Let it all come to a boil over medium heat, whisking it like you're drumming those beats. Once the sauce is rocking with a rolling boil and the sugar's all dissolved, take it off the heat and pour it evenly over your apples. Any remaining spiced sugar? Sprinkle it on top – we don't waste rock 'n' roll flavor!

  7. Now, pop those dumplings into the oven for 50-55 minutes, or until they're golden and a paring knife slides in as smooth as a guitar solo. Let 'em cool a bit, and when you're ready to serve, grab some of that sweet sauce to drizzle over them and pair with a delicious cup of your favorite Rockin' & Roastin' Coffee!
